I really hope Fate/Stay Night UBW won the poll because you guys are gonna miss so much otherwise X)
Same. I just finished re-watching the two series back-to-back and they both are required to get the full story. I hope it won.
In my opinion UBW doesn’t really work as a sequel to Fate/Zero while I am sure it’s more enjoyable for fans of the visual novel. As someone who started with Fate/Zero it was a massive disappointment. The dialogue is no where near as well written, and many of the story elements set up in Fate/Zero are just dropped. With most of the characters introduced in Zero being killed off or written out of the story with almost 0 screen time. And even those given a passable amount of scene time like Gilgamesh and Kirei come off as caricatures of their former selves.
The Heaven’s feel’s movies work much better as a sequel in my opinion. Gil gets almost no screen time in that, but at least he still felt like the same character he was in Fate/Zero instead of what he devolved into in UBW. Kerei also seems like himself, though he didn’t get much screen time in the first two movies. The other characters set up in Fate/Zero get a decent amount of screen time and development. And it’s overall just better written. Maybe someone who started with the visual novels would see it differently, but to me UBW was a disappointing mess.
Do you REALLY think those 2 are old enough or into the story so much that they read the novels or played the game??? I get where you’re coming from about the movies. THAT is a great point, But to ASSUME the people who like UBW must have read the novel is silly to me. Most simply are unaware of or just never watched the movie series. I haven’t, So thanks for the suggestion! I’ll watch them after I finish UBW! ???
James, no, UBW is not a mess. You are.
You can say that about all of the routes since no single route contains all of the plot points. Saber gets the least amount of development in Heaven’s Feel for example. Fate/UBW works best as a sequel to Zero in that UBW reconstructs the ideals and themes that Zero deconstructs. It carries the best throughline from Kiritsugu’s story. To me, it just sounds like you were invested in different characters and plot points than what UBW focused on.
I hope they don’t forget about the best Fate which is Prisma Illya
