2. The Japanese people have long noticed that their elders seem to shrink later in their life. It’s not necessarily true, but it’s a commonly accepted “fact” in Japanese culture.

   1. Well people do get shorter as they age, and the Japanese are workaholics so they probably do lose stature more due to back issues. Add anime to that and you get exaggerated shortness.
